As most Americans enjoy this year’s Labor Day on September 2, 2019, it’s a great time to reflect on the value of working smarter, not harder, and the tremendous advances of technology that have made jobs safer and enhanced American productivity.
This year marks the 125th anniversary of America’s Labor Day. It is remarkable how far we’ve come since 1894 when President Grover Cleveland signed legislation establishing the first national holiday for Labor Day on the first Monday of September. At that time, an average electrical worker was paid an hourly wage of 15 to 20 cents per hour, while training and safety concerns were minimal.
