Is it the season to freshen up your home’s interior? Are you ready to make some interior design changes? Perhaps you have moved into a home, and are considering remodeling everything at one time. That is all too common, and Georgia Home Remodeling is here to help.
Here is a question from a potential client. In fact, you may be asking the very same thing.
“I would like to remodel two bathrooms and my kitchen. Should I do it all at one time or one room at a time?”
Often, we get this question when homeowners wish to remodel their home. And the truth is, there is no right or wrong answer here. You see, some pros and cons go into both decisions. Below, you will find an honest answer to those pros and cons. Then you can make the best choice for you and your family.
If you ask yourself that same question, there are some significant positive reasons to do everything at one time. Most homeowners will choose this route if they have the available cash and time to do it. In the end, it saves both time and money, and a fair amount of headache.
When remodeling everything at once, there will be less time spent with the noise of machinery, saws, and nail guns in your home. That is always a plus. Not to mention, doing the work at once will have your home back to normal in a shorter amount of time. And then, if you have an HOA, the plans can be passed by them together, and the permit pulled as one. This will save on significant and unnecessary delays.
When placing larger orders for materials, the contractor will most likely get a better deal. That will save your bottom-line price. Plus, the contractor will save time by working from one area to the next with ease. For instance, framing day can be all on one day, requiring one set of tools, and grout day, on another. All the rooms can be painted at one time with the right crew available to get it done right. And the contractor will be able to move from one task to another while the first is setting or drying, wasting no time.
There are also a few downsides to remodeling all at once. If these are not concerns for you, then, by all means, get it done as quickly as you can enjoy the new look sooner.
For instance, the deposit and materials cost will be upfront, rather than split up by room. If you have saved the cash to get it all done at one time, then good for you. If not, you may need to break it into manageable projects.
Additionally, you may need to move into a hotel or in with a relative for the project’s duration. When both bathrooms and kitchen and are out of commission, most people would instead treat the time as a vacation, or an excellent reason to visit the relatives. If you can stay elsewhere, then this is not a hindrance for you.
Finally, the home and schedule disruption is quite significant when scheduling repairs and remodeling all together. There are plenty of decisions to be made disrupting the “day as usual.” Again, if that is something you feel you are prepared to handle, then go for it!
If these so-called “cons” frighten you a bit, then consider breaking the remodel into phases.
When choosing to remodel over time, the pros and cons are, again, up to your project comfort level. You will spend less money upfront and will be able to spread the cost out over time. Not only is it less financially overwhelming, but it is less of an overwhelming project as well. What’s more, you may be able to live in the home while the work is in progress.
On the other hand, spread out time and costs equal a larger bill. Inspections will be scheduled on multiple days causing additional delays. Homeowners are typically excited to begin a remodel. All the designs and plans are created, and now you are waiting for the work to begin. But, if you let the project drag on, you may tend to hurry things along as you get weary of the process. No one wants that.
You read it right; we are here for you and your remodel. It matters not to us; we will deliver a beautiful quality remodel no matter how you choose to attack the work.
